Montréal en commun (MeC): Experimenting with innovative and collaborative solutions to build a greener, more inclusive, and equitable city of tomorrow.
Montréal en commun : Who Are We?
Montréal en commun is an innovation community led by the City of Montréal, where partners experiment with solutions in food access, mobility, and municipal regulation with the goal of rethinking the city. The insights gained from these experiments can inspire other organizations and cities to implement innovative projects that support a just and inclusive socio-ecological transition.
The projects of Montréal en commun are made possible thanks to the prize awarded to the City of Montréal by the Government of Canada as part of the Smart Cities Challenge.
Building Change, One Experiment at a Time
Montréal en commun is a wide range of human-scale experiments designed by and for Montréal’s population, which take the form of:
- Pooling equipment and resources (e.g., MutuAli, Locomotion, L’aube, SALC, Serres de rue)
- Developing technological solutions (e.g., Locomotion, Tomat, Mobilité Intégrée)
- Creating networks and spaces for dialogue between municipal actors and grassroots organizations around social issues such as Indigenous data governance and the creation of solidarity food hubs (e.g., Pôle régional solidaire)
- Designing and animating inclusive meeting spaces that strengthen community resilience (e.g., Tiers lieux)
- Developing platforms for data collection and visualization (e.g., Mobility Data Hub, Évaluation en commun)
- Supporting reflections on data governance (e.g., Nord Ouvert)
