Between 2020-22, Ada X supported the Tech Tech Tech project, an exploration of feminist digital tools as alternatives to Big Tech platforms. The research for Tech Tech Tech was conducted by Sarah Choukah, Liane Décary-Chen, Marie LeBlanc Flanagan and Hannah Strauss.

Describing a “feminist digital tool” in contrast to “Big Tech tools” is not a simple exercise, and the more the project grew, the more it became clear that this challenge was mostly about us starting a conversation. So we started describing our online browsing experiences: how do we really feel when we find ourselves online and what do we wish for our online existence? Perhaps this understanding of what we want from this facet will help us understand what we want in general.

One of the results of the project was the transcription of these conversations into zines, written by Liane Décary-Chen and Marie LeBlanc Flanagan. These zines include both individual and shared reflections on privacy, security, control, information, and money—but they also testify to the feelings, well-being and ill-being, of what it is to sit, to walk, to listen, to feel recognized, to feel alienated, to navigate, to share, to try to claim one's own existence, to try to fade away and disappear, of what one can ask, of what one can bear. We invite you to read these zines and explore the questions they raise about where, how and why you are online.

Launched in person on September 16, 2022 at Café Reine Garçon, these publications are now available in two formats, one digital and another printable at home.

Entre 2020-22, Ada X a soutenu le projet Tech Tech Tech, une exploration d’outils numériques féministes comme alternatives aux plateformes de Big Tech. La recherche pour Tech Tech Tech a été menée par Sarah Choukah, Liane Décary-Chen, Marie LeBlanc Flanagan et Hannah Strauss.

Décrire un « outil numérique féministe » en contraste avec les « outils de Big Tech » n’est pas un exercice simple, et plus le projet se développait, plus il est devenu clair que ce défi nous a surtout permis d’engager une conversation. Nous avons donc commencé à décrire nos expériences de navigation en ligne: que ressentons-nous réellement lorsqu’on se retrouve en ligne et que souhaitons-nous pour notre existence en ligne ? Peut-être que cette compréhension de ce que nous voulons de cette facette nous aidera à comprendre ce que nous désirons en général.

L’un des résultats du projet a été la transcription de ces conversations sous forme de zines, écrits par Liane Décary-Chen et Marie LeBlanc Flanagan. Ces zines comportent à la fois des réflexions individuelles et partagées sur la confidentialité, la sécurité, le contrôle, les informations, et l’argent—mais ils témoignent également des sentiments, du bien-être et du mal-être, du fait de s’asseoir, de marcher, d’écouter, de se sentir reconnu, de se sentir aliéné, de naviguer, de partager, d’essayer de revendiquer sa propre existence, d’essayer de s’effacer et de disparaître, de ce qu’on peut demander, de ce qu’on peut supporter. Nous vous invitons à lire ces zines et à explorer les questions qu’ils soulèvent quant au lieu, au mode et à la raison de votre présence en ligne.

Lancées en personne le 16 septembre 2022 au Café Reine Garçon, ces publications sont maintenant disponibles en deux formats, l’un numérique et un autre imprimable à la maison.
