Amanda Penney, Eastern Edge artist-run centre
EN-
I am a mother, visual artist and arts administrator. Born on the Northern Peninsula in a community called St. Anthony, NL, I have grown up all over the country with the deepest roots in Calgary, Alberta and Churchill Falls, Labrador. After living away from the province for six years, I returned to Newfoundland and Labrador to pursue a BFA at Memorial University which I completed in 2005. I am currently managing a family of four along with the Eastern Edge artist-run centre. In recent years I have worked at the NL Craft Council gallery, and worked as a volunteer in community outreach creating safe creativity workshops for adults and children with the intention of empowerment through creation. The connection between art and community and the healing power of both is what inspires me most. I am a big fan of street art and public art spaces and I am driven to experience and create art every chance i get. I am participating in interConnect because it aligns with my goals both as an artist and arts administrator. I am very interested in how technology is helping artists and art making. Learning about the newest technology and tools that are being used in innovative ways to increase accessibility in galleries and other art spaces will also be incredibly helpful.
